Privacy Policy

Pogodex (“we”, “our”, “the Site”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes what personal data we collect, why, with whom we share it, and the rights you have. It is written to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK Data Protection Act 2018, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the CPRA, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) where applicable to United States users, and the Italian implementation of GDPR through D.Lgs. 196/2003 as amended.

1. Data controller

The data controller for personal data processed through Pogodex is Giovanni Picaro, the publisher of the Site. The contact address for privacy matters is privacy [at] pogodex [punto] space.

2. What we collect and why

Pogodex collects relatively little personal data. The categories:

  • Server logs — IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, referrer, timestamp. Retained for 30 days for security and operational purposes (debugging, anti-abuse, server-load planning). Legal basis: legitimate interest under GDPR Art. 6(1)(f).
  • Cookie consent state — a cookie storing your consent decisions for analytics and advertising cookies. Legal basis: consent and legal compliance (the consent cookie itself is necessary).
  • Email correspondence — messages sent to our published email addresses are received and retained for the time needed to respond and for any subsequent record-keeping. Legal basis: legitimate interest and, where applicable, consent.
  • Analytics data (with consent) — aggregated, pseudonymized usage statistics: pages visited, time on page, country-level location, device type. We do not collect anything that uniquely identifies you within the analytics dataset.
  • Advertising data (with consent) — cookies and identifiers used by our advertising partners; see Section 4.

We do not require account creation to use the Site. We do not collect data on real-world location, your in-game Pokémon GO trainer name, your buddy Pokémon, or any data tied to your Niantic account. Pogodex does not interact with your Pokémon GO account in any way.

3. Children’s privacy

Pogodex content is suitable for general audiences. The Site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe your child under 13 has provided personal data to us through email correspondence or otherwise, please contact privacy [at] pogodex [punto] space and we will delete the data and any associated records.

Pokémon GO is played by trainers across a wide age range; we recognize that some Site visitors may be minors. Where this Privacy Policy refers to “you” or “the user,” it refers to the visitor; where the visitor is a minor, parental or guardian involvement is appropriate.

4. Advertising partners and disclosure

Pogodex is an ad-supported publication. Display advertising helps fund the editorial work. Our current and planned advertising partners:

  • Google AdSense (current primary). Google delivers personalized and non-personalized advertising on the Site, depending on your consent and your jurisdiction. Google may use cookies (DoubleClick DART, IDE, NID) and other identifiers to measure ad performance and frequency-cap. Where you have not consented to personalized advertising, AdSense serves contextual advertising based on the page content rather than your profile. Google’s privacy practices are described at Google Partner Sites. You can review or change your ad personalization at Google Ad Settings.
  • Mediavine (planned future). As Pogodex grows beyond the AdSense traffic threshold and approaches Mediavine’s eligibility requirements (currently 50,000 monthly sessions), we plan to apply to join the Mediavine network. If accepted, this Privacy Policy will be updated to disclose Mediavine’s specific cookies and data practices, and the consent banner will be refreshed.
  • Adsterra (fallback alternative). Where AdSense or Mediavine eligibility is not available, Adsterra serves as an alternative ad network. Adsterra’s privacy practices are described in the Adsterra Privacy Policy.

Only one network serves ads at a time. The current network is identified in the consent banner you see when you first visit the Site. If you do not consent to advertising cookies, you will see contextual advertising rather than personalized advertising; you cannot remove advertising from the Site entirely without using a browser-level ad blocker.

5. Analytics

With consent, the Site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site usage. The configuration anonymizes IP addresses, does not enable Google Signals (cross-site identity merging), and does not enable advertising features in the analytics property. Data retention is set to 14 months. You can opt out of Google Analytics by refusing analytics cookies in our consent banner, by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by using a browser-level tracking blocker.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies. The full list is in our Cookie Policy, including categories (strictly necessary, analytics, advertising), the specific cookies set by us and our partners, retention periods, and how to manage your preferences.

7. Your rights under GDPR

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data:

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR).
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16).
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17).
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18).
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20).
  • Right to object (Art. 21).
  • Right not to be subject to automated decision-making (Art. 22) — not applicable to Pogodex.
  • Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (the Italian Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office, or your national supervisory authority).

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy [at] pogodex [punto] space with the subject line specifying the right (e.g., GDPR Access Request). We respond within 30 days.

8. Your rights under CCPA/CPRA

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA: right to know what personal information has been collected, right to delete, right to correct, right to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, right to limit use of sensitive personal information, and right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

To exercise these rights, email privacy [at] pogodex [punto] space. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as an opt-out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information.

9. Data retention

  • Server logs: 30 days.
  • Email correspondence: as long as needed to handle the matter, plus a reasonable retention period for record-keeping (typically 24 months).
  • Analytics data: 14 months (Google Analytics setting).
  • Cookie consent state: 12 months from the date of consent.
  • Advertising data: per the relevant ad network’s retention policies.

10. International transfers

Some of our service providers (Google, Cloudflare, our hosting provider) process data in the United States and other countries outside the EEA. Where such transfers occur, they are subject to appropriate safeguards: Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) under GDPR Art. 46, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where applicable, or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

11. Security

The Site is served over HTTPS with TLS encryption. Hosting is provided by a commercial hosting provider with industry-standard security controls. Email correspondence is handled with similar care. We do not store payment data, account credentials for any external service, or in-game account data.

12. Updates to this policy

This Privacy Policy is reviewed at least annually and revised when required — for example, when we change advertising networks, when applicable law changes, or when we add new features. The “Last updated” date reflects the most recent revision. Material changes are accompanied by a refreshed consent prompt.
